Balance of a business and of an organization

On this page

Money in Talemo lives on two levels. An organization pays: it holds the payment methods and invoices. Each business has its own balance, and businesses of one organization do not share it.

Balance of a business

The Balance tab of Balance and spending shows:

  • Balance: the money the business has now.
  • Reserve: a month of the business's work without the online admin and the assistant, at least $1. It is kept so that the business can keep its data and keep running for that month. It is counted from the last days of the business; for a business younger than a week the figure of a typical business is taken.
  • For the online admin and the assistant: the balance minus the reserve.
  • the spending limit, if one is set (see Spending this month and the spending limit).

When the online admin and the assistant are expected to stop, the tab says around which date, at the pace of the last 7 days, and an email comes 3 days before. What happens when the balance reaches the reserve or zero is in Low balance and blocks.

A top-up made on the Balance tab goes straight to the balance of that business.

Money of an organization

Money that was paid for the organization and given to no business yet lies with it, in the row The organization has, marked "not given to any business yet". The organization's money grows when a payment is made while creating a business or while bringing a closed business back. When a business is closed, its balance moves here, and when an organization is deleted, its money is lost together with it.

The Organization's money card on the Balance tab and the Organization page show it to a person who can manage the organization's money, that is, the owner. The same card has Invoices and payment methods, which opens the Polar account with cards, receipts and billing details.

Moving money into a business

Move here (or Move to a business on the Organization page) opens Transfer from the organization's money: choose the business and how much. The whole amount is offered, and a part can be moved; the rest stays with the organization.

  • To open a new business, the organization has to hold at least the smallest pack, $10.
  • A business that is already open can be given any amount up to everything the organization has.
  • Money cannot be moved back out of a business: a business keeps its money. It also cannot send money to another business.

Who sees what

An owner sees and changes everything. An administrator sees the business's balance, spending and payments but not the organization's money. See Team and roles.
