# Organization, business and branch

Talemo has three levels, and the names are fixed: **organization**, **business**
and **branch**. Organization is the top level.

## Organization

An organization pays. It holds the payment methods and invoices and the balance
that is not given to any business yet (see
[Balance of a business and of an organization](../money/balance-and-organisation.md)).
It has a name, which appears on invoices, and a choice of **How you work**:
**Company or sole trader**, or **As an individual**. Talemo does not check the
choice; it is only for the invoice.

An organization is created when a person starts creating a business, and the
person becomes its owner. The **Organization** page in settings shows the name,
the owner, the balance and the businesses of the organization, closed ones too,
with the date until which they can be restored.

## Business

A business is the boundary of the data. Its clients, team, assistant and balance
belong to it alone. Businesses of one organization do not see each other and
share only the organization, that is, the payment methods and the balance. The
owner sees all the businesses of the organization.

A person who works in several businesses switches between them in the header or
in the account sheet, under **What you see**. A business is created on the web;
the app only switches between existing ones. Settings → **About the business**
shows the name, the organization that pays and the branches, and the name is
changed there. A program connected over MCP reads the same with
`talemo_get_business` and renames the business with `talemo_update_business`.

## Branch

A branch is a location of a business. A business always has at least one, and
the first is created together with the business. A branch has:

- a **name** and an **address**;
- a **time zone**. A business has no time zone of its own; the time on the
  screens follows the zone of the branch, whoever looks;
- a **currency of prices**, in which the prices of the branch's services are
  written. It can be changed later and cannot be removed. A new currency keeps
  the numbers: 2600 in one currency becomes 2600 in the other, nothing is
  converted, so the price list has to be checked.

Clients are shared across the whole business. Settings → **Branches** lists the
branches, and **Add branch** adds one; it takes the time zone of the branch the
person is in and suggests the usual currency of that zone. The time zone of a
branch cannot be changed while visits ahead would fall outside the moved
schedules; Talemo says how many, and they are moved or cancelled first.

## Closing a branch

**Close branch…** takes a branch out of the switcher for the whole team. Nothing
is deleted: the address, the history and the clients stay. The last open branch
cannot be closed, and a branch with visits ahead is closed only after they are
moved or cancelled. **Closed branches** → **Open again** brings it back at once
with everything it had. The owner and the administrator can do this.

A connected program adds and changes branches with `talemo_create_branch` and
`talemo_update_branch`, and closes and reopens them with `talemo_close_branch`
and `talemo_reopen_branch`, with the rights of the person who connected it.
