# Deleting an account and an organization

Creating an account means accepting the terms and the privacy policy; both are
linked on the sign-up screen.

## Deleting an account

Account sheet → **Delete account**. In the app the confirmation opens in a browser
window. The page lists what is deleted and what stays, and then asks to sign in
once more:

- **What we delete:** the name, the email and the sign-in methods, the sign-ins on
devices (all are signed out at once) and the connected programs (disconnected at
  once).
- **What stays:** records, conversations and files in businesses. They are the
data of the businesses and stay with them.
- **You will leave the businesses:** the page lists them, with the owner marked.

After the confirmation Talemo signs the account out on all devices and writes that it
will be deleted in 30 days, on a named date. Until that date nothing disappears. To
change one's mind, the person signs in and presses **Keep account**; the letter has
the button **Cancel deletion**. Once the deletion has started, the account can no
longer be kept. If the person did not ask for the deletion, the letter says to
cancel it and change the password, because someone has signed in.

When the date comes, the account, its sign-in methods, devices and programs are
deleted, and the last letter is sent to the address. The same address can be used
to create an account again.

### The only owner

The only owner of an organization with an open business cannot be deleted: the
business would be left without anyone in charge. The page says **First, the
business**. The way out is to close the business or to hand over ownership to
another person (see [Handing over ownership](ownership-transfer.md)). A person
who opens such a business within the 30 days gets the letter **We didn't delete your
account**, and deletion has to be requested again, with a new 30 days.

## Deleting an organization

Only the owner deletes an organization: **Organization** → **Delete the
organization…**. It needs a last sign-in no older than 10 minutes and the name of the
organization typed by hand. The page says that access is gone for everyone, that
the balance is lost and cannot be returned as money, and that the organization
cannot be restored.

- An organization with open businesses is not deleted: close them first (see
  [Closing and restoring a business](../money/closing-and-restoring-a-business.md)),
or choose **Delete together with all businesses…**, which closes them at once.
A business that is coming back from the archive has to finish first.
- Closed businesses can no longer be brought back after the deletion, even if their
  30 days have not passed.

## An organization that nobody uses

An organization with no open business and no activity for about a year is deleted
together with its balance. The owners get the letter **We will delete the
organization** 30 days and 7 days before, with the date and the balance that would be
lost. To keep it, open the organization and do anything in it, for example open a
business from its balance; the year starts again.
