# Connected programs and access keys

A program can work in Talemo on behalf of a person. It acts with that person's
rights and only in the businesses the person chose. Two ways exist: a connection
that the person allows on a Talemo page, and an access key.

## Connecting Claude or ChatGPT

The connection is started in the program itself: Talemo is added there as a
connector. The program sends the person to a Talemo page, **Allow "Program" to
work in Talemo?**, which says:

- the program will see what the person sees: clients, records, conversations,
  catalogs;
- it will do what the person can do, and what Talemo always confirms with the
  person waits for their **Allow**;
- it will never change the password, the email or the sign-in methods, or delete
  the account.

The person checks the businesses the program may work in and presses **Allow**.
A program that Talemo has not checked is marked **The program is not verified**,
with the advice to allow it only if the person connected it themselves. A person
without a business sees **Nothing to connect yet**. Talemo sends the letter
**Program connected**.

The account sheet, under **Connected programs**, lists them with the date and the
last use. **Disconnect** stops the program seeing the businesses at once, and it
can be connected again from the program. Settings → **Other programs** shows, for
one business, what was connected by people, and **Disconnect** there removes a
program from this business only; in the person's other businesses it keeps
working.

## Access keys

A key is for programs on a computer, such as Claude Desktop, where Talemo works
without signing in through a browser. It acts on behalf of the person who created
it, with their rights, and only in this business.

Settings → **Other programs** → **Create key**:

1. Enter a **Name**, so that it is clear later what to revoke.
2. Choose how long it is **Valid for**: 30 days, 90 days or a year. Keys without an
   end date do not exist.
3. Talemo shows the key once. Copy it then; a lost key is revoked and a new one
created. The page explains how to connect it to Claude Desktop: Settings →
Developer → Edit config, paste the setting that already holds the key, restart
   Claude.

Creating a key asks for a sign-in no older than 10 minutes. **Revoke** takes the
key away at once, and its program loses access to the business. A key also stops
when its owner is removed from the business or the business is closed, and it does
not come back when a business is restored.

## What a connected program sees

A program connected with a business key works in one business.
`talemo_list_businesses` names that business, and another is refused. A missing,
revoked or expired key is answered as requiring authorization, and the person
creates a new key. A program cannot top up the balance or give the online admin its
rights; a person does that in Talemo (see [Team and roles](team-and-roles.md)).
